The father of Elder Walter E. Grant was stricken with yellow jaundice in the autumn of 1903. His condition worsened over several months, resulting in extreme physical deterioration and intense pain, with doctors declaring his recovery impossible. Walter had a premonition through a dream of his father's critical state and eventual recovery. During a time when the father appeared to be dying, Walter and other Elders administered to him; immediately after the administration, his condition normalized, and he eventually regained perfect health. Later, he became president of the Davis Stake, fulfilling a previous prophecy by President John W. Hess.

In Their Own Words

“In the autumn of 1903 my father was stricken with yellow jaundice. He grew worse from day to day, and for months he suffered intense pain. The best medical skill was employed, but the doctors finally gave him up, saying it was impossible for him to recover. During this time I had a dream in which I saw my father in a dying condition, and I saw him restored to health. I told my mother of this dream, and she said she hoped it would be fulfilled. One night my father seemed to be passing away. The family was called to his bedside. Then when the doctor stood over him with his watch—my dream flashed before me and I knew what the doctor would say. We stood breathless, and the moment the doctor said, 'He is dead,' we Elders placed our hands upon his head, my brother-in-law, Fred J. Pack, being mouth. We were united, and as servants of the living God commanded every part of his body to work according to the laws of nature. Three minutes after our hands were removed, his heart was beating normal again. He then opened his eyes and smiled. From that time he continued to improve, until he has been restored to perfect health, thus fulfilling the words of the Patriarch.”
