An unnamed man who had been disfellowshipped was considered beyond medical help. He requested administration from the Elders, was anointed and blessed, and was healed by the power of God.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 41, No. 34, 25 August 1879):
A man in Stockton, who had been disfellowshipped, was taken sick, and the doctors said he could not live. He sent for the Elders, and they anointed him with oil and prayed for him, and he was healed by the power of God.
In Their Own Words
“Another case was that of a man who had been disfellowshipped from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a few months since. He was very sick, the doctor saying he was past hope of recovery and that he could not do anything for him. But the prodigal thought of his Father in his great trouble, and sent for the elders, who, by virtue and authority of the holy priesthood which they hold, anointed him with oil, laid their hands upon him and blessed him in the name of Jesus Christ, and by the power of God he was healed. — Millennial Star 41:34”
