Brother T. Jeremy suffered a serious gunshot wound to the head that observers believed was beyond medical treatment. He requested that the elders of the church administer to him. Elder Thomas Harris administered the ordinance of the laying on of hands and anointing with oil in the presence of a crowd. Jeremy did not recover instantly, but did receive significant healing and continued to improve quickly thereafter.

In Their Own Words

“We are sorry to hear of the alarming accident that happened to brother Jeremy through a gunshot, which wounded his head so seriously, that those present said that he was beyond treatment. We were very happy to hear also that he was so full of faith and trust in his heavenly Father and his treatment, so that he wanted nothing else, and that the only call that was to be had from his mouth was for the elders of the church. This is a fact to prove the divinity of his religion when in dangerous and dire circumstances; would he have done this, had he not believed he would be healed through the oil and the laying on of hands? This is not the first time for him to see that God is true to his promise. He was administered to in the presence of a crowd by elder Thomas Harris, and although not all at once, and although contrary to the expectations of the onlookers, yet he received healing to a great extent, and he is improving quickly after that. — Prophwyd y Jubili (Prophet of the Jubilee), December, 1847 (English translation by Ronald D. Dennis)”
