During a conference in Wairarapa, New Zealand, where an influenza (la grippe) outbreak was affecting many, including the strongest members, a group of about ten people gathered in a room and engaged in communal prayer to seek the Lord's blessing. A specific sister prayed for the pain to be removed from her body, and the account states that it was done according to her faith.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 52, No. 23, 9 June 1890, p. 366):
At a conference held in Wairarapa, where the influenza (la grippe) was very prevalent, and many of the strongest members were laid up with it, a number of the Saints, about ten in all, met together in a room, and engaged in prayer, asking the Lord to bless them. One sister prayed that the pain might be taken from her body, and it was done according to her faith.
In Their Own Words
“One evening, just before the bell rang for meeting, some ten persons assembled in our meeting room, and set themselves apart for prayer, desiring the blessing of the Lord. It was with evident exertion that some of them had reached there. They sat around the room waiting for the Lord’s blessing, and not in vain. One sister in particular, prayed that the pain might be driven from her body; and it was done even according to her faith. — Millennial Star 52:23”
