While preparing for an 1840 mission to England, Heber C. Kimball and Orson Pratt were in New York City. During their stay, they were called to visit a woman who was suffering from an illness so severe that she was unable to turn herself in her bed without assistance. Neither the woman nor her husband were members of the Church at that time. Upon visiting her, the Elders anointed her with oil in the name of the Lord. As a result of this administration, she was made whole. Kimball recorded in his journal that two days after this miraculous healing, the woman and her husband were baptized, along with fourteen other individuals. This account confirms the companion as Orson Pratt, as documented in Kimball's own records from the Seventh Book of the Faith-Promoting Series.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in President Heber C. Kimball's Journal: Seventh Book of the Faith-Promoting Series, Chapter XVI, Heber C. Kimball):

While we were in New York, we were called to visit a woman who was sick, and not able to turn herself in her bed. We went to see her, and administered to her in the name of the Lord, and she was made whole. Two days after, she and her husband were baptized, and fourteen others.

In Their Own Words

“Soon after I arrived in New York, Orson Pratt and I were called upon to visit a sick woman, who was unable to turn herself in bed without assistance. We anointed her with oil in the name of the Lord, and she was made whole. She did not belong to the Church, nor did her husband, but in two days afterwards she and her husband were baptized, and fourteen others. — President Heber C. Kimball's Journal: Seventh Book of the Faith-Promoting Series, 1882, Chapter XVI”
