While traveling in the Sheffield Conference with Elder L. W. Richards in August 1866, R. Fawcett was stricken with smallpox. He was subsequently afflicted with the same disease along with erysipelas on his face. He credits the unremitting care of Sister Collough during his illness for his recovery.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 30, No. 28, 11 July 1868, p. 445):

In August, 1866, while traveling in the Sheffield Conference with Elder L. W. Richards, I was taken with the small-pox, which was followed by erysipelas in my face, and I was brought very low; but through the unremitting care of Sister Collough, who nursed me through my illness, and the blessings of the Lord, I was restored to health.

In Their Own Words

“Sometime in August, while travellin around the Conference with Elder Richards, he was taken sick with small-pox. I waited on him and was attacked with the same disease from which, with erysipelas on my face, I suffered very much. My grateful thanks are due to sister Collough for her unremitting care and attention to myself and Elder Richards during our illness. — Millennial Star 30:28”
