After a near-drowning accident, Edith Morris developed a high fever and became delirious. Her brother David, who had recently joined the Church, prayed for her and received a divine manifestation that she would recover if administered to by the Elders. Following his revelation, the Elders were called, and she subsequently recovered.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Young Woman's Journal, vol. 5 no. 8 (May 1894)):

The evening was wearing on, and for the third time that day David repaired to his room to offer up prayer in behalf of his sister. He had just closed his humble petition, when a still, small voice, even that of the Spirit of God, whispered in his ear: “Fear not, David, for the Lord hath heard thy prayer, which thou hast offered up in behalf of thy sister. Be of good cheer; her illness is not unto death, but that God's saving power might be made manifest in your father’s house, and this for a wise purpose in the Lord. Send for the Elders of the Church, and let them pray for your sister, anointing her with oil, in the name of the Lord, and by the prayer of faith she shall be healed, and the Lord shall raise her up.” David arose from his knees with a heart full of gratitude and joy. He went immediately to his father and told him what the Lord had said. His father, though not a member of the Church, had no objection to the Elders being sent for. They were soon on the ground, and after administering to the young girl, she fell into a quiet, peaceful sleep, and when she awoke the fever had left her, and she was on the high road to recovery.
