While serving a mission in Zurich, Switzerland, George Mayer was arrested by police after refusing to leave the city despite orders, claiming he had broken no law. While imprisoned, he was threatened with being sent to America and forced to subsist on half-rations. However, after he confronted the police regarding his status and spoke of God and holy angels, the officers appeared struck and left him. He subsequently made friends with other prisoners and preached the Gospel to them.
In Their Own Words
“They then appeared struck, and they left me and went out. I then told them it was a wise counsel that sent me here, and God and holy angels knew it. ... It made friends with those prisoners that were in the room with me, and I preached the Gospel to them, and they said they believed it. — Millennial Star 16:26”
