While visiting in Newark and Delaware, G. Reynolds suffered a 'mutilated' and 'bruised' body from an unspecified incident. He recounts that entire strangers in Newark and old friends in Delaware treated him with great care and attention, which he attributes to God's hand in his recovery.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 28, No. 11, 17 March 1866, p. 174):
I was in Newark, Delaware, and had the misfortune to be so mutilated and bruised, that I was confined to my bed for some time. I found that entire strangers in Newark, and old friends in Delaware, treated me with the greatest care and attention, and I feel that it was the hand of God that directed them to be so kind to me.
In Their Own Words
“I have received the greatest care and attention from entire strangers during my stay in Newark, and from my old friends in Delaware. Every hand was held out to administer to my wants, to soothe my pain, and heal my bruised and mutilated body. May the God of our fathers reward them for their kindness unto me. — Millennial Star 28:11”
