While Parley P. Pratt was being held prisoner in a room at an Indian house in the Creek nation, he suddenly experienced an intense outpouring of the Spirit, which he described as 'light' bursting upon him. He declared to those present that his situation was 'all of the Lord' and that great things would result from it. He noted that he felt like a little child led by a father and that he was 'so full of light' he could scarcely control himself, his countenance becoming visibly brightened by this internal fire.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 19, No. 35, 29 August 1857):

Brother Pratt said, as we entered the door, “this thing is all of the Lord, and great will come out of it. Light burst upon me about an hour ago. It is on account of the populace that I am so cautious.” After he sat down, he again burst forth, “I am so full of light I can scarcely control myself;” and his countenance was lit up by the fire within him, as the Saints have often seen him when overflowing with heavenly intelligence. He was then silent for some time, and after which he said, “I feel like a little child that is led by its father, i.e., knows not whither, but feels certain father will lead it right.”

In Their Own Words

“Brother Pratt said, as we entered the door, “ this thing is all of the Lord, and great will come out of it. He was then silent for some time, and after which he said, “ I feel like a little child that is led by its father, ic. knows not whither, put feels certain father will lead it right.” — Millennial Star 19:35”
