Elder John H. Cooper, after laboring in Karachi, successfully taught and baptized Robert W. Currie and organized a branch of the Church there on August 16, 1903. The report notes that Cooper's weekly meetings consistently attracted earnest investigators.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 65, No. 37, 10 September 1903, p. 587):
Elder John H. Cooper, writing from Karachi, India, under date of August 16th, 1903, says: 'We have organized a branch of the Church here today, with Brother Robert W. Currie as president. We have a few earnest investigators who attend our meetings regularly.'
In Their Own Words
“In supplement to the news contained later, we are advised that Elder John H. Cooper has since baptized another member, by name Mr. Robert W. Currie, and has thought fit to organize a branch in Karachi on Sunday last, 16th August, 1903, the office-holders in connection therewith being as follows: Elder Robert Marshall, branch president; Elder William Charles A. Marshall, treasurer; Elder Henry J. Lilley, secretary; Priest Robert W. Currie, assistant-secretary. We all hope and pray that the work may be an ever-expanding success, and we are encouraged in that hope by seeing that Elder Cooper’s weekly meetings attract an attendance of seemingly earnest outsiders in search of enlightenment. — Millennial Star 65:37”
