Magdalen Sessions, a missionary in Cape Town, South Africa, organized a Bee-Hive Swarm of fifteen girls. Through the program, she guided the girls in learning sewing and cooking skills which were not part of their local culture. They held successful demonstrations in the field of religion and domestic arts. The work also served as missionary outreach; girls of other faiths began attending meetings, and one girl and her mother requested baptism.

In Their Own Words

“We have organized a Bee-Hive Swarm of fifteen girls, and they are very enthusiastic about the work. We have been teaching them sewing and cooking, which is something new to them, as the girls here are not taught these things in their homes as they are in Zion. We have had some very successful demonstrations in the field of religion and domestic arts, and the people who have attended have been very much interested. We have several girls who are members of other churches but are zealous Bee-Hive girls and some of them are now attending our meetings and bringing their mothers, brothers, etc. One of the girls with her mother has already asked for baptism and they are just waiting for the father to return home for his approval. We feel that the Bee-Hive work is going to be a great help to us in our missionary work here in South Africa. I am truly thankful for the success the Lord is blessing us with and we pray for the M. I. A. work in Zion and throughout the Church that it may grow and prosper as those in charge would have it.”
