Elder Ingham and Elder C. R. Savage were arrested and imprisoned in Zurich, Switzerland, for preaching the gospel. Ingham was held for three days and nights, and Savage was also imprisoned for the same cause, after being slandered by those who were wickedly disposed.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

In Zurich, the capital of the canton of the same name, the work has been commenced. Elders Ingham and C. R. Savage have been there for some time. They have been arrested and imprisoned, but have been released. They are now at liberty, and are continuing their labours. It is true all manner of slander was raised against us by those who were most wickedly disposed, and in consequence of falsehoods I was cast into prison for three days and nights, and Elder C. R. Savage, who paid us a visit, suffered the same penalty, for the same cause. We were not, however, left without the consolations of the Spirit of God, which were poured out upon us in a rich degree, and we felt to rejoice that we were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Christ. We were treated with some degree of harshness, but the Lord was with us, and we felt that our imprisonment would be the means of bringing the truth before the public, and of causing many to inquire into the principles we teach. I have rejoiced in it, and I thank God for the experience I have gained, and for the evidences of His protection in the time of my necessities, and it is my constant prayer that the blessing of the Lord may attend the exertions of the native Elders, who are good and faithful men, that the work may constantly increase under their administration.

In Their Own Words

Savage, who paid us a visit, suffered the same penalty, for the same cause. ...
