Elder Halldor Johnson, laboring in Iceland, describes his travels of three to four hundred miles on foot and his successful baptism of two believers, despite the skepticism of others regarding angelic visitation.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 61, No. 8, 23 February 1899, p. 126):
Elder Halldor Johnson, writing from Reykjavik, Iceland, under date of Jan. 28, says: 'I have traveled between three and four hundred miles on foot, and have baptized two persons. Some people here are very skeptical, and say that angels do not visit the earth in these days, but I know that the Gospel is true, and that the Lord is with His servants.'
In Their Own Words
“Brother Johnson has been traveling between three and four hundred miles east, searching for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. He has baptized a couple of believers, though a great variety of sentiment prevails on religious matters; some believe the Bible, others care but little for it, and of those who profess to accept it, few are looking for angelic visitation or believe such a thing possible in this generation. At the same time he met with a good reception everywhere, and feels well in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, although quite lonely and traveling always on foot, railroads being unknown. — Millennial Star 61:8”
