Edward D. Gardner's preservation from cholera on the plains

During a journey to Utah, the author, Edward D. Gardner, witnessed the 'dreadful cholera' which struck his company, killing 28 people who were buried in one grave. He mentions that 25 were on the sick list at one time. Through prayer and the administration of the priesthood, he and others pleaded with the Lord for deliverance, and they were preserved.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

We have had a very prosperous journey, although we have been visited by the cholera, which has been a source of great trial to us. Twenty-eight of our company have been consigned to the silent grave, and at one time we had twenty-five on the sick list. My soul was pained and moved when I saw our beloved brothers Milo Andrus, Richard Ballantyne, and George C. Riser administering to my friends and companions; but the Lord proved faithful and delivered us from the destroyer, for the destroyer was rebuked until perfect health was restored, for which we thank God, our Father.
