An unnamed coal miner working in Newcastle-upon-Tyne was buried under a collapse of several tons of coal and stone in a mine. He called upon the Lord for help, and after a short time, rescuers dug him out. He survived with only minor injuries despite being in a position where he should have been crushed. He credited his deliverance to the Lord and an earlier priesthood blessing from Elder Daniel Garn.
In Their Own Words
“I was working in a coal mine in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and while engaged in my work, a large quantity of coal and stone fell upon me, burying me completely. I instantly realised my perilous position and called upon the Lord to spare my life. When the fall ended I was delivered in a way that I can never fully explain. When the fall ended in a very short time there was quite a number of men in the place working hard to get me out. They were very much surprised to find me alive, as they expected to find me crushed to death. As soon as I was free, the men took me to where my clothes were lying, to dress me, but before doing so, I wished them to bear me up on my knees, while I returned thanks to my heavenly Father for my miraculous deliverance. I was only slightly bruised, and in a few days I was able to resume my work. I wish to say my miraculous deliverance is with the power of God in my behalf; and the promise made, that I should not lay my body down in this land, was fulfilled.”
