Counselor Joseph E. Taylor's Testimony of the Divine Nature of the Law of Tithing

Counselor Joseph E. Taylor testifies that the recent instruction regarding the law of tithing, delivered by the President as 'thus saith the Lord,' carried such power and plainness that all Latter-day Saints recognized it as the voice of the Lord. This spiritual manifestation resulted in a significant increase in tithing payments throughout the Stakes of Zion, in some cases doubling compared to previous years.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

I will now refer to the late powerful manifestation of the will of God in relation to the law of tithing as declared by our President to be, ‘thus saith the Lord.’ Having had the privilege of accompanying the President to several Stake Conferences, I think and feel that I have to some extent at least partaken of the Spirit of this special manifestation. I can and do testify that God has spoken through His servant in such plainness and with such power that every Latter-day Saint has recognized the voice of the Lord. This is evidenced in the increased payment of tithing throughout all the Stakes of Zion. In some cases double, as compared with former years. The Saints have felt that the time had fully come when they should manifest their faith by their works, and they have responded to the call with a readiness and a willingness that is truly commendable. It is a source of great satisfaction to know that the people are beginning to realize that the law of tithing is a law of the Lord, and that it is binding upon all who have entered into covenant with Him.
