Charlotte Orme's dream of the Prophet Joseph Smith healing a man

Charlotte Orme, who was a Sunday School teacher in the Church of England, investigated the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through tracts and conversations with Elders. Seeking confirmation that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet, she prayed to the Lord and was answered through a dream or vision in which she saw the Prophet Joseph Smith healing a sick man.

Prior to receiving the vision regarding the Prophet Joseph Smith, Charlotte Orme had prayed to know if baptism was essential to salvation, as she was initially unsatisfied with the elders' teachings on the subject; in response, she received a dream confirming that baptism is a necessary ordinance. Her investigation of the Church was facilitated by Elder Alonzo J. Gilbert, who visited her home and used the Bible to correct her understanding of the nature of God, specifically addressing her previous belief in a 'god without body, parts, or passions' as taught by the Church of England, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher for over ten years.
