Catharine Kidd was at the point of death with fever, and family members had already prepared her burial clothes. William Athole MacMaster and Elder M'Farland anointed and administered to her; she recovered from that hour.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

This is to certify, that I was in Borland on the 8th of January, 1849, and there was a girl by the name of Catharine Kidd, lying very bad with a fever, and was at the point of death, and there was part of her dead clothes made, waiting every moment when the breath would leave her; so I was called to see her, and I went; and they asked me if I would attend to the ordinance of the Church with her, and I said that I would: so in company with Elder M‘Farland, I anointed her with oil, and laid hands on her, in the name of Jesus Christ; and when I had done, I told them that she would get better, for the Lord had heard our prayers, and would restore her; so from that hour, she did get better, and the dead clothes were laid aside. I am, yours in the gospel, William Athole MacMaster.
