While traveling to England for their mission, Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball had only $13.50 between them but were able to pay out $87.00 for their expenses.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

I have formerly told this community of a circumstance that occurred to brother Heber and myself, when we were on our way to England. We paid our passage to Kirtland, and to my certain knowledge we had only $13.50, but we paid out $87.00; this is but one instance among many which I could name. We had to pay our passage, and we had to have some means to get along, and we had to have some means to pay our passage across the sea, and we had to have some means to sustain our families while we were gone. We had not a farthing, and yet we paid out $87.00. How did we get it? The Lord gave it to us.
