During a severe illness of her young son Douglas, who was sinking rapidly despite medical aid, Anna Mitchell retreated to her room and prayed humbly for his recovery. She received a peaceful influence and in her heart knew he would be spared. Upon returning to his bedside, he was found resting in easy slumber, and he eventually recovered completely.
In Their Own Words
“The doctor was summoned, and did all in his power---but it was to no avail. After hours of unconsciousness, the little life seemed about to sink away, when suddenly he slightly raised himself, looked around and frantically called, "Papa! papa! to set you free." Then all was silence!---the beautiful eyes closed forever, and the little body lay limp and cold... Just between ourselves, however, I say it was that fond mother's prayers that brought back her treasure from the embrace of death, and restored him smiling and well to her thankful arms. — The Young Woman's Journal 3:5”
