Isaac Galland was a physician who gained recognition for his medical expertise, specifically in the treatment and prevention of cholera. He utilized a specialized medicine chest, approximately one cubic foot in size, which was marked with the label 'Dr. Galland's Medicine Chest' in red letters. His success in managing this disease was noted as a significant contribution during his time.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in History of Medicine in Iowa, by D.S. Fairchild, M.D., F.A.C.S. (reprinted from The Journal of the Iowa State Medical Society, 1927)):

Dr. Isaac Galland with his family settled on the west shore of the Mississippi in 1829 at a point called At-Wip-E-Tuck afterwards known as Nashville. Dr. Galland was a brilliant physician and was especially successful in the treatment of cholera, as well as the prevention of the epidemic. In his cabin he placed a chest or box about a foot cubic on which in red letters was printed the legend 'Dr. Isaac Galland's family medicines'. The box contained the usual and ordinary remedies used by the doctors in those days, and was placed in nearly every cabin in his wide field of practice.
