During the Newcastle Conference, President David O. McKay related a prophecy of Joseph Smith that the Jews would return to the Holy Land and Jerusalem would be rebuilt. He connected this to the 1917 capture of Jerusalem by General Allenby, the appointment of a Jewish Governor over Palestine, and Orson Hyde's 1842 dedication of the land for the gathering of the Jews.

In Their Own Words

“He said that when a boy, he heard his father relate one of Joseph Smith's prophecies that the Jews will return to the Holy Land and Jerusalem will be rebuilt... President McKay stated that in 1842 Orson Hyde dedicated the Holy Land as a gathering place for the Jews, and prophesied that Great Britain would be the power which would aid in restoring it. The speaker related his personal experiences in Palestine, and said that the hand of God is guiding the affairs of men, that Jerusalem will be rebuilt and prophecy fulfilled. — Millennial Star 86:24”
