Before he was a member of the Church, Samuel Whetton was stricken with diphtheria for ten days, during which he could not consume food or drink. Upon choosing to be administered to by the Elders instead of seeing a doctor, he felt a 'great change' immediately following the administration. He ate a hearty breakfast the next morning and returned to work the following week.
In Their Own Words
“Later, while living in Salt Lake City, and before I was baptized into the Church, I was taken down with diphtheria. For ten days I could neither eat nor drink other than medicine prescribed for me. I well remember one Friday night, my mother asked me which I would rather do, have the Elders of the Church or the doctor call upon me. I answered that I should prefer the Elders. The Elders came and administered to me and immediately I felt a great change come over me. The next morning, I arose and ate a hearty breakfast. The following week I rode to town and reported ready for work.— Millennial Star 86:16”
