The author, W. A. M., relates a dream he had 'many years ago' where he expected the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to occur in the sky with trumpets and angels. In the dream, he encountered a humble-looking man in a black garb who claimed to be Jesus, showing him the prints of the nails in his hands. The author followed this figure as he went among people to give them a chance to receive him; however, the people ridiculed and rejected him, pointing fingers at him. The figure remained calm and noted that while the people honored him with their lips, their hearts were far from him.

In the January 12, 1922 issue of the Millennial Star, W. A. M. is identified as William A. Morton, who served as the associate editor of the periodical alongside Orson F. Whitney throughout 1922.

In Their Own Words

“In my dream I saw the people of the place in which I lived in a state of great excitement, caused by the report which had been circulated that the coming of the Saviour was at hand. . . I was standing in front of my home when I saw a man, dressed in black garb, coming down the street. . . When he came to where I was standing he stopped, and, addressing me, said: 'The people are greatly excited.' . . . 'He is not going to come that way,' he said. Then raising his arms, the palms of his hands towards me, he added: 'I am Jesus Christ.' As he spoke I beheld the print of the nails in his hands, and it seemed to me that I had known him all my life. . . He told me he was going to go among the people and give them the opportunity of receiving him. . . I followed him from group to group, and, to my great astonishment and sorrow, there was not one among them that would receive him. Instead, they ridiculed him, and pointing their fingers at him, said: 'Look at the Saviour!' 'Look at the Son of God!' . . . As he came from the last group he said to me: 'You see the love they have for their Saviour; they draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.' — Millennial Star 84:51”
