Ann Quayle Cannon — Premonition of Death at Sea

Prior to the Cannon family's departure from Liverpool for Nauvoo in September 1842, Ann Quayle Cannon reportedly experienced a strong premonition that she would not survive the voyage across the Atlantic. Despite this foreknowledge, she felt a divine mandate to gather with the Saints and expressed that she was willing to sacrifice her life so that her husband and children could reach Zion. Her premonition was realized when she fell ill and died on October 28, 1842, while the ship Sidney was at sea near New Orleans. She was buried at sea, and her family continued the journey to Nauvoo as she had intended.
