Susanna Porritt Barnes — Vision of the Salt Lake Valley

While still living in England and prior to her emigration to Utah, Susanna Porritt experienced a vivid vision or prophetic dream. In this manifestation, she was shown a distinct mountain-rimmed valley that she did not recognize at the time. After joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and traveling to the United States, she recognized the Great Salt Lake Valley upon her arrival in 1862 as the exact location she had seen in her vision years earlier. This experience served as a foundational spiritual witness for her, sustaining her faith through the subsequent hardships of the 'Cotton Mission' in Southern Utah.

Susanna and her family emigrated from England, crossed the plains, and were called to the Cotton Mission in Southern Utah after her 1862 arrival in the Salt Lake Valley.
