Bibliography Research
While serving as a guard during the Black Hawk War, David H. Caldwell experienced a distinct spiritual prompting that saved his life. While stationed at a post in central Utah, he felt a sudden and powerful impression from the Holy Ghost to move his position immediately. Obeying the prompting without hesitation, he stepped away from his post just moments before a shot or arrow (accounts vary on the specific projectile) struck the exact spot where he had been standing. Caldwell attributed this narrow escape to the gift of revelation and divine protection afforded to those serving in defense of the pioneer settlements.
