The Healing of the Swampy Ground

When the pioneers began excavating the temple site, they struck a spring that threatened to flood the foundation and render the ground unusable. Brigham Young prophesied that if they remained faithful and built on that spot, the water would be managed and the ground would become holy. Through a combination of inspired drainage engineering and what the pioneers considered divine intervention, the water was diverted into a permanent stream that provided water for the city, and the swampy ground hardened sufficiently to support the massive stone structure without further flooding issues.
