Isaac Chauncey Haight — Spiritual Warning in the Desert

During the 1870s and early 1880s, while living in a state of 'exile' or seclusion in the remote regions of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona to avoid federal authorities, Haight frequently relied on spiritual impressions for his safety. According to family records and DUP manuscripts, on one specific occasion while camping in a hidden location, Haight received a sudden and powerful impression from the Holy Ghost that he was in immediate danger and must move his camp at once. Despite the difficulty of traveling in the dark, he obeyed the prompting and relocated. He later learned that federal marshals had arrived at his exact previous campsite shortly after his departure. He viewed this timely warning as a direct manifestation of divine protection and the 'still small voice.'
