Isaac Chauncey Haight — Preservation of the 1853 Emigration Company

In 1853, while returning from a three-year mission to England, Isaac Chauncey Haight was appointed to lead a large company of Latter-day Saint emigrants across the American plains. During the journey, the company was threatened by a severe outbreak of cholera, which was claiming many lives in other wagon trains that season. Haight recorded that through the power of the Priesthood and constant collective prayer, the company experienced remarkable healings and divine protection. He noted that while other groups suffered heavy losses, his company was preserved and reached the Salt Lake Valley with their health largely intact, an outcome he attributed to direct divine intervention and the faith of the Saints under his charge.
