The Niels Bertelsen family was among the faithful Scandinavian households who, upon accepting the restored gospel, forsook their homeland to gather with the body of the Saints in the mountain West. Like many Danish and Norwegian convert families, they crossed the ocean and the plains as a household, and there, in the valleys of Utah, reared a family in the gospel and carried the covenant into the next generation. Their family is a faith-promoting witness of the Scandinavian households whose collective faith and emigration helped build up the kingdom in the West, and whose names, though little noted, are written among the faithful of the gathering.
