Esther Ann Birch Bennion was the wife of John Bennion, the Welsh convert who came to the Salt Lake Valley in September 1847, and the mother of Israel Bennion, who served fifteen years as bishop of Taylorsville. With her husband she crossed the plains and helped establish the Bennion family in the Salt Lake Valley, rearing children who would become bishops, educators, mission presidents, and apostles in the generations to come. Her faithfulness is a faith-promoting witness of the pioneer wives and mothers who, with their husbands, gathered to Zion and there laid the foundations of a lineage that would bless the Church for generations.
