Before departing on a mission to Nova Scotia, Benjamin Brown was given a prophetic warning by Church leaders that he would suffer greatly in the course of his mission. The prophecy was precisely fulfilled: Brown was falsely charged with crimes, waylaid on a road by a mob, beaten severely, and left for dead. The detailed fulfillment of this advance warning stood as a striking testimony of the prophetic gift operating in the restored Church.
