William C. Staines Healed of Ague Through Transfer of Disease

William C. Staines documented a remarkable healing experience that taught him about the priesthood. While in St. Louis, he found an acquaintance 'quaking with the ague, which he had had for three weeks.' Staines recorded: 'He requested me to administer to him, which I did, rebuking the disease in the name of the Lord. I afterwards sat down and asked him how he felt. He informed me that he was healed, that the chill had left him. He had no sooner said this than I commenced to quake with a chill. I told him I had got his complaint and wished him to lay hands on me. He refused saying he had had it for three weeks. This convinced me of the necessity of having two or more to perform the ceremony.' Through this experience, Staines learned an important lesson about the priesthood requirement of multiple holders working together.
