When James Henry Rollins was a young boy struggling with understanding the various spiritual manifestations in early Kirtland, the Lord blessed him with a comprehensive visionary experience. As Rollins recorded: 'After much praying I was shown by a guide... He showed me many things which has transpired since, and are being literally fulfilled to the very letter.' In this vision, his guide showed him profound spiritual realities and also 'a liquid billow of fire, on either side of me; as it rolled along it consumed everything upon the earth.' When Rollins asked his guide what this signified, 'he said, it was what is to come and the destruction which was to roll over the earth to cleanse it, and make it pure.' Most remarkably, the guide 'showed me many things which I would have to pass through. He told me to hold fast the Iron Rod, which, at that time, I did not know the meaning of, or neither did he explain it to me.' The literal fulfillment of these prophetic visions over decades of his life became an 'anchor and solace' to Rollins during trials.
