Solomon Chamberlain, in his youthful distress over his sinful life, cried unto the Lord night and day for forgiveness of his sins, like the patriarch Enos of old. At length the Lord spoke to him, saying: 'Solomon, thy sins are forgiven thee. Go in peace and sin no more.' At that moment, Solomon's heart leaped for joy unspeakable, and he received direct assurance of God's forgiveness and acceptance.
