After arriving in the Salt Lake Valley, the Saints faced severe shortages of food, clothing, and tools necessary for survival in the harsh desert environment. Benjamin Brown had been foretold that these provisions would be supplied according to the Lord's promise. Miraculously, his foretelling came to pass when the coming of gold diggers to California created an unexpected opportunity for the Saints to trade and obtain the supplies they desperately needed. This providential timing and supply of goods demonstrated that the Lord had foreseen their needs and provided the means to meet them.
