William Draper's Vision of Future Persecutions of the Smith Family and the Saints

William Draper was traveling to Far West, Missouri in June 1838 when he became severely ill and had to camp by the wayside. While recovering at the house of Brother Edward Weaver, a company from Kirtland arrived that included Joseph Smith's father (the patriarch Joseph Smith Sr.) and his brothers Hyrum and William. At a blessing meeting held for the worn-out travelers, William Draper received an open vision while the Spirit of the Lord was poured out. In this vision, he saw surprising events that would befall the Saints, especially the Smith family. He proclaimed this vision to the congregation, and it so affected the patriarch Joseph Smith Sr. that he wept like a child and declared the vision was true and from the Lord. Within a few weeks or months, this prophecy was fulfilled as persecutions came upon the Church in Missouri.
