Betsy Lucinda Baker Topham — Vision of Mercy Young Baker

While living in the early settlement of Paragonah, Utah, Betsy Lucinda Baker Topham experienced a period of severe illness and discouragement brought on by the hardships of pioneer life. During this time, she received a vision of her mother, Mercy Young Baker, who had passed away in 1845 when Betsy was only ten years old. Her mother appeared at her bedside dressed in white and spoke words of comfort, promising Betsy that she would recover, raise a large family, and that her sacrifices in the desert were known to the Lord. This manifestation provided Betsy with the spiritual and physical strength to continue her work in the settlement of Iron County.
