We invite you to read these testimonies with a prayerful heart as we look back on the faith of those who paved the way.

Following the 1877 dedication of the St. George Temple, Wilford Woodruff received a vision of the American Founding Fathers. Figures such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin appeared to him, expressing their desire for temple ordinances to be performed on their behalf. President Woodruff subsequently oversaw the vicarious baptism and confirmation for these eminent men.

2. James Godson Bleak Records the Vision of the Founding Fathers in the St. George Temple (August 1877)

James Godson Bleak, the first recorder of the St. George Temple, documented an account from Wilford Woodruff regarding the spirits of the Founding Fathers. These historical figures appeared in the temple over two nights, asserting that the United States was established under divine direction. They sought the performance of their temple work to fulfill the purposes of the Lord.

3. Vision of the Heavenly Host during Temple Dedication

During the 1893 Salt Lake Temple dedication, Wilford Woodruff testified of seeing heavenly personages, including Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith, Brigham Young, and John Taylor. He also beheld ancient prophets like Esaias and Jeremiah. This profound experience served as a divine confirmation that the work performed by the Church on earth was ratified by those who had previously led the kingdom.

4. George Q. Cannon's Vision and Conversation with the Savior

In the days following the Salt Lake Temple dedication, George Q. Cannon shared his testimony with priesthood leaders. 6. Angelic Visitation to a Young Boy

Eleven-year-old George Monk of Payson, Utah, reported seeing eight angels in the Salt Lake Temple assembly hall during the dedication.
