Warm Creek Indian's Gradual Transformation into a White Man

A Warm Creek Indian, whose brother-in-law is Andrew Hankup, is reported to be undergoing a physical change where his skin is turning white. President Seegmiller of the Richfield Stake observed the man in Kanosh and noted that large spots on his arms were as white as his own skin, a condition that had been progressing over several years.

A Warm Creek Indian, a brother-in-law to Andrew Hankup, is undergoing a physical change, his skin turning white. President Seegmiller, of the Richfield Stake, who has seen the man at Kanosh, says that large spots on his arms are as white as his own skin, and that the change has been going on for several years.

“President Seegmiller of Richfield Stake knew of the case and asked Andrew if he knew the white Indian. Andrew replied that he was a brother-in-law. Is he still growing white? asked Mr. Seegmiller. Yes, pretty soon white man, replied Andrew, and then he went on telling by signs where the Warm Creek Indian is now entirely white. White here now, he said, pointing from both ears down along his neck. Heap white here, and he rubbed his hand across his breast. It is one of the most remarkable occurrences, said Mr. Seegmiller. There is actually an Indian growing white. I saw him at Kanosh not long since and had him bare his arms. In large spots they are as white as mine. Our people are much interested in the case because of what the Book of Mormon says about Indians becoming a white and delightsome people. This Indian has had white spots on him for years and they have gradually been growing bigger. — Millennial Star 56:26”
