W. J. Williams, while serving as a soldier in the trenches of France during World War I, was wounded in what was considered a severe injury. While lying on the ground in pain, he prayed for recovery. His prayer was answered. Later, while in England preparing for an operation under anesthetic, he prayed again, and reports that his prayers were answered, leading to his successful treatment and eventual baptism into the Church.

In Their Own Words

“When I received a wound (which was thought to be severe) I exclaimed, 'O my God!' and while I was lying on the ground in terrible pain, I kept on praying for my recovery, and my prayer, thank God ! was answered, as He had promised in His word. After staying in France over a month owing to the severity of my wound, I was sent to England, and I was operated on, and while I was taking the anaesthetic I was praying to my heavenly Father, and, all glory to Him, He answered all my prayers.— Millennial Star 79:37”
