While traveling among the Indians, Apostle Brigham Young and Apostle H. J. Grant met a young Ute man who recounted having received remarkable visions. He described a personage who appeared to him, including how the being was dressed. This personage instructed the young man to go to the Mormons, stating they would baptize him and provide further instruction.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 45, No. 24, 11 June 1883, p. 378):
A young Ute, who had been visited by a personage in a vision, who told him how he was dressed, and instructed him to go to the Mormons, who would baptize him and tell him what to do, has been baptized by Elder Brigham Young.
