Thomas C. Callister — Conversion Dream on the Isle of Man
Published September 2, 2026 at 8:44 AM
Prior to his immigration to America, Thomas Callister experienced a significant dream or spiritual manifestation regarding his future. In this vision, he saw himself traveling to a distant land and eventually returning to his homeland to share a message of great importance. This experience prepared his mind for the arrival of Latter-day Saint missionaries on the Isle of Man. When he heard the gospel preached by John Taylor (his uncle), he recognized it as the fulfillment of his dream and was baptized in 1841.
Recording note: No verbatim first-person text of this dream survives in a public archival source. The account is known through the biographical sketch of Thomas Callister (1817–1890) published by the Church Historian's Press in connection with the George Q. Cannon documents, and through the Church History Biographical Database. Callister, a Manx convert baptized in 1841 through the preaching of his kinsman John Taylor, later immigrated to Utah and served as bishop of the Fillmore Ward, where he presided for many years as a pillar of the Millard County community.
