Thomas Banks's children, residing at Common Side, Kingswinford, Staffordshire, were afflicted with small pox of the worst kind. His youngest daughter sickened first, followed by two other children. The children were completely covered in sores. Upon returning home, the father, a member of the Church, anointed his children with pure olive oil and laid his hands upon them, rebuking the disease in the name of Jesus Christ. They were healed from that very hour. By the next morning, the child who had been a mass of sores was sound and asleep, with the fits and other symptoms of the disease having left them.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 13, No. 18 (15 September 1851), p. 284):

The circumstances of the case are as follow: On the 22nd of March last, his youngest daughter sickened, in three days the small pox broke out upon her body, but on the 30th she was completely covered, from the crown of her head to her feet; two other of his children had also the disease come upon them. The father, who holds the holy priesthood, and who has faith in the name of Jesus Christ, was called upon by an elder to administer to them. He returned home, anointed his children with pure olive oil, according to the scriptures, laid his hands upon them, rebuked the disease, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and they were healed from that very hour. The child whose body was a mass of sores, at ten o'clock at night, on the 31st morning had not a sore upon her body; she was sound and asleep, and during the night, fits and other symptoms of the disease had left the children, and left the house, to the great joy of all dwelling there, and with hearts desiring to render glory and praise unto God.
