During a seminary lesson on faith in Draper, Utah, a teacher invited a student to the front of the classroom, blindfolded him, and set obstacles before him. The teacher's instruction became the phrase Kynnli could not forget: "Take two steps into the unknown." When the student removed the blindfold, he found himself looking at a picture of Christ, and the moment moved him deeply. Watching the object lesson, Kynnli applied it to her own hesitation about serving a mission: she did not know where she would be called or what it would be like, but the prompting distilled into a single decision — to take her own two steps into the unknown and start. She went home and submitted her mission papers that senior year, a decision that led to her call to the Tahiti Papeete Mission, where the Lord had already prepared remarkable experiences for her among the Tahitian people.

In Their Own Words

“"He invited someone to come up to the front of the classroom and he blindfolded them and he said... 'take two steps into the unknown'... and there was a picture of Christ and the kid just kind of got emotional... I could just take those two steps into the unknown." — Kynnli, LDS Mission Stories interview, "LDS Missionary Tells Stories of Unbelievable Miracles | Tahiti, Papeete Mission"”
