An unnamed sister in the South African Mission suffered a second stroke of paralysis. Elders administered to her, and she showed initial recovery. However, a doctor later pronounced her case hopeless and advised her relatives to be summoned. The elders administered to her again, and her condition dramatically improved. When the doctor returned, he was stunned to find her recovered and walking about her duties, declaring that a miracle had been wrought.
Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71, No. 14 (April 8, 1909), p. 219):
In one case a sister was seized with an attack of paralysis. It was the second stroke. She immediately sent for the elders. They responded, and after their administration she began to recover. The doctor came, however, and pronounced her case hopeless, and recommended that her relatives be sent for, as, in his opinion, she could not live long. The elders were again sent for, and when they had administered to her and prayed for her her condition changed for the better. When the doctor called again, expecting to find her dead, he met her at the door of her home; she was walking about the house attending to her duties. The doctor said, 'A miracle has been wrought here; I never expected to see you again alive.'
