While traveling through the California redwoods in Mendocino, two sisters were overwhelmed by the glory and vastness of nature, perceiving it as a revelation of the power of the Creator. Feeling prompted to worship, they felt their souls burst forth in hymns of praise and thanksgiving, and though neither possessed the gift of song, their voices resounded in the woods, which they interpreted as a spiritual experience.
In Their Own Words
“We stopped our horses and gazed in awe at the wonderful glory. We seemed to stand on holy ground and felt our weakness and unworthiness. The vastness was overwhelming. It was a sudden revelation of the power of the ‘Great Architect.’ We did not speak, but of one accord raised our voices in hymns of praise and thanksgiving. Neither of us possess the gift of song, but something within, the soul perhaps, burst forth and thus caused the woods to resound. — The Young Woman's Journal 19:9”
