Sister Elizabeth F. Lindsay passed away on April 22nd, 1880, in Salt Lake City. During her final illness, she maintained her faith and frequently testified of God's blessings. As she neared death, her mental and spiritual powers were quickened; she led her family in singing hymns despite having very little breath, and later, for several minutes before her death, her countenance became illuminated with a radiant glow and an animated smile while she appeared to commune with invisible beings.
In Their Own Words
“Sister Elizabeth F. Lindsay, wife of Elder Joseph Lindsay, of the 13th Ward, Salt Lake City, departed this life on the 22nd of April, 1880. She was a faithful Latter-day Saint, and during her long and painful illness, which she bore with great patience and resignation, she frequently testified of the goodness of God and the comfort she received from the Holy Spirit. Her faith in the Gospel was unshaken to the last. As she neared the end of her earthly pilgrimage, her mental and spiritual powers seemed to be quickened and enlarged. She would frequently call her family around her and join with them in singing the songs of Zion, although her breath was very short and she was extremely weak. For some minutes before she quietly breathed her last, with her eyes turned upward, all at once her countenance became illuminated with a radiant glow, and a most animated smile played upon her lips, with an expression of heavenly joy. We felt that she was communing with those, to us, invisible. She passed away without a struggle, as one falling into a sweet sleep, leaving a testimony of the truth of the work of God, which was a great comfort to her sorrowing relatives and friends.”
